I had a three hour round trip to pick up this pair of French side tables but this shape is so hard to find in my neck of the woods that I think it was worth it.
I first painted with Made By Paint Old Blue, which is a beautiful sophisticated French blue. I then colour washed the whole piece in linen to soften and give added texture.
The drawers and added side detail were then given the crackle look using Made By Paint Crackle Glaze and a coat of Linen paint applied over the top.
I didn't want any of the lines to be perfect as my idea was that it would have the French Chateau look, rather worn and aged...... a bit like me!
After applying the top coat it still looked too squeaky clean and wasn't quite the look I had in mind.
An application of Made by Paint Dark Glaze soon sorted that out. I kept applying and wiping back until I had the finished look. The glaze has a very long drying time so plenty of time to adjust the finish. Wiping with a damp cloth helps to give an even finish to the glaze without too much striping.
I especially like the way the dark glaze settled into all the cracks and crevices.
