An American Cupboard in Australia

April 17, 2016

Why oh why do I always forget before photos?

I picked this little cupboard up on Ebay and it has sat languishing in the garage for almost a year. It had beautiful proportions however it had 1 major flaw. Yes as so often happens it had only three  legs.... When I picked the piece up it had four legs but 10 minutes in my husbands company the poor thing was minus an appendage!

I had almost run out of furniture to paint so I politely asked my husband to repair the leg and let it see the light of day again.

The hardware is all original and I think this would have been a quality piece of furniture in its day. I used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White and Fusion inside the drawers, finished off with our bird on a branch stencil. I really enjoy working on pieces with character and lovely lines and to be honest it makes painting much easier. I knew that I wanted to give it a little extra something and our newest stencil was just the ticket.

Graphics Fairy is a wonderful source of vintage french advertisements and I had seen this one being offered as a transfer. Now I have had limited success with transfers so I thought this would be an ideal opportunity to create a stencil of the Cacao - Payraud image. The old images  are beautiful and luxurious with their swirls and art nouveau styling.

I am loathe to sell my little cupboard with original handles and shell decoration. I am sure I can find a spot somewhere for this one. If not it will be heading to my booth in the Daylesford Mill Markets.

The stencil is now online for sale just look for FS11 in the French Stencil tab.
