I have been waiting for the right project to come along so that I could use our new Stags Head Stencil, I loved the way Adriana from Rustic Boutique had used the stencil on a little set of drawers and knew I wanted to create something similar. Anyway hunting through the garage I found this cute little dresser.which I had completely forgotten about. It was an eBay buy and possibly dates back to the 1950s.
The dresser had a very high shiny lacquered finish so I sanded it back with my orbital sander. Underneath the red varnish the drawer fronts were a lovely knotty pine
I decided to leave the front of the drawers in their natural woody state and go for a Country Industrial look.... I think I made that title up!
I used Miss Mustard Seed in French Enamel for the frame and top of the dresser ( thank you to Dandelion Wood). It didn't chip and I think I made it too runny but hey I'm still learning with MMS. The picture below is after just one coat.
The bare wood and the rustic stags head had changed the character of the dresser and the brass handles just didn't suit anymore. To the rescue Dr Barleycorn who made me some rope handles and drilled a few holes..... look it keeps him happy!
So from 1950s utility to a new, rustic slightly industrial look.
Don't you just love this up-cycling lark?
