Living the Dream
So who hasn't dreamed of opening their own little shop?
Eight months ago I decided to have a go at fulfilling that dream and opened a shop in my hometown of Sunbury in Victoria. The Barleycorns found a small shop in a small arcade with affordable rent and we went for it! There has been ups and downs and retail is notoriously hard with money being tight for everyone. However I can honestly say I am loving every minute.
I have kept open the space in The Mill Market Daylesford so at times I feel I need to have two of me to keep up with demand.
The very best experience has been making some wonderful friends who have called into the shop and become my best buddies throughout the months. My artist friend Sally at Piggy in Mud created the wonderful art work on my window. We have so many positive comments from our customers who tell us the shop is very different to anything else in the town.
We have created a little community hub in the back of the shop where we hold our knit and sit on Friday mornings. Our good friend at Sunbury Radio, Chris pops his head in and asks the ladies what they want to hear on his show, Tin Shed Radio, and we always get a mention... Thanks Chris.
My favourite customer Fletcher Hurricane.
Regrets..... no not at all so if you are in the area call in for a good old Yorkshire welcome and a cup of tea.
